My nice little run on free plays continued on Wednesday with the Giants and Phillies playing a 0-0 game into extras. That makes it an 8-4 start to the 2nd half of the MLB season for my plays and I’m hoping to keep it going with these selections tonight.

Miami ML (+115) $300 to win $345

Big time movement on this game as recreational bettors continue to have no problem laying the chalk with an Atlanta team that has Aaron Harang on the hill. Harang is not a pitcher I’m willing to back at any price unless he’s a decent underdog as his best baseball is clearly behind him. But this play is all about siding with the reverse line movement here with a Miami team that isn’t as bad as many perceive them to be. They are 7-1 SU in Henderson Alvarez’s last eight starts against a division rival and have a 10-2 SU run going in his last 12 starts overall. Taking three of four from the Braves would be a great accomplishment for this young team and I believe they’ll do it.

Detroit ML (+104) $200 to win $208

It’s not too often you’ll find the reigning Cy Young winner Max Scherzer and the Detroit Tigers as an underdog, but that’s what they are tonight in L.A. The Angels actually have a better record than the Tigers but sit in a wildcard spot because the A’s are in their division and lead the way. That’s part of the reason Detroit comes in as a dog, but with young phenom Garrett Richards on the hill the Angels come in laying the chalk.

Yet in matchups like this I never have a problem taking the more established guy (this case Scherzer). Detroit is not a bad team by any means and with a 13-3 SU mark the last 16 times they’ve been a road underdog and a 11-3 SU run going against winning opponents, I’ll take the + money on the Tigers tonight.
