It was a sweep with my two underdog selections yesterday (Miami and Detroit) and if you had waited on them and played them closer to game time you would have gotten a better price than I did at +115 and +104 respectively. I posted (and bet) those plays at 3 pm est to get you guys the plays early and we will never post lines here that aren’t current at the time of post just to suit needs of posting whatever number looks best for the play.

It’s on to tonight’s full MLB card though and with it being Friday I’ve got another CFL play for you all.

All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts ‘to win’ on favorites and flat on underdogs

MLB plays

San Diego ML (+148) $200 to win $296

The Padres have a 45-56 SU record this year and are well on their way to missing the playoffs yet again. But despite being 11 games below the .500 mark and having a .197 team batting average against lefties, San Diego is basically a .500 team against southpaws (10-11 SU). San Diego slugged around lefty Tsuyoshi Wada on Wednesday and those hot bats continued to knock the ball around in a 13-3 victory (against a righty) last night. Since San Diego has already become a big ‘seller’ as the deadline approaches, guys are playing for jobs and for opportunities, so getting them at this kind of price against a lefty is a spot I don’t think I can pass up.

Toronto ML (+126) $300 to win $378

Toronto has lost 16 straight times here in Yankee Stadium and it’s a run that’s gotten a lot of recognition in Toronto’s local media. To go on a run like that against a division opponent is almost unheard of and it’s clearly become a mental thin as well for this Jays team. But call it a hunch, call it a shot, I believe tonight’s the night they snap that streak and get the W.

I say that because Mark Buehrle’s on the hill and he had his own disastrous streak going against the Yankees for awhile too. He’s still not gotten an official win in his last 12+ starts against New York, but his Jays did get the W the last time he pitched against the Bronx Bombers. That was the first time his team had won in 10 starts against the Yankees and I think that’s a big mental hurdle cleared for Buehrle. He’s obviously been Toronto’s best pitcher this season and with the Jays having a 7-2 SU record the last nine times he’s had only four days off, there are some strong numbers supporting him tonight. Toronto is also 7-3 SU in his last 10 starts on the road and 17-5 SU when he starts with a total between 7 and 8.5, so even with their lineup missing some of their big bats, I think Buehrle and the offense find a way to do what’s necessary to snap this horrible streak in Yankee Stadium.

CFL Plays

Winnipeg +8.5 (-115) $230 to win $200

This is a play all about fading the Lions and backing the Blue Bombers as both teams are coming off drastically different games last week. Winnipeg was blown out 26-3 at home against Edmonton in a lashing that had to have motivated these guys in practice all week. It was Winnipeg’s first loss of the year so it’s not like they are a poor team, they just had a bad game. Motivation, or lack thereof,  can do some funny things for teams and the Blue Bombers definitely have a strong motivational angle on their side.

That’s the spot BC was in last week as they were out for revenge against Montreal and got it in a big way. They beat the Alouettes 41-5 in an absolute beatdown game and now have to turn around this week and play a Winnipeg team that’s trying to pick themselves up off the floor. BC knows this is likely going to be a much tougher game, but without that angry hunger they had last week, winning by 9+ will be hard.

Secondly, BC has a date with undefeated Calgary next week and is quite possibly looking ahead to that big showdown. Look ahead spots are something I always look for in all levels of football and I believe the Lions get caught tonight. Whether it’s enough for them to lose outright I don’t know, but this will be a one-possession game either way so I’m grabbing the points.
