Sunday June 8th Betting Action

I hope you all sided with history in the Belmont Stakes and cashed my play on California Chrome not to win. That's a play I look for every year when a horse has won the first two legs of the Triple Crown so keep that in mind for the coming years. My favorite horse Tonalist also came through with the victory as he made it back-to-back wins at the Belmont after claiming the Peter Pan Stakes a month ago. Commissioner was 2nd in that race too so it wasn't surprising to see him do well. My other plays went 2-3 on the day with yet another 'under' in the NHL playoffs going up in flames. I still believe the rest of the series will be low-scoring but I'll be looking to pick my spots. MLB was 2-2 with my top play on the 'over' in Tampa hitting but it was basically a break-even day on the diamonds. MLB action is where I'm going today as I'm looking to cash a few more tickets for you. All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts "to win" on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the day in Bold NBA YTD: 12-13-1 (-$187) NHL YTD: 9-13-3 (-$417) MLB YTD: 53-58-7 (+$202) MLB Plays  Oakland/Baltimore Over 8.5 (-119) $357 to win $300 My play of the day here thanks to a very strong wind (11 mph) blowing straight out to left field. Camden Yards has always been a hitter-friendly park but when you give the players supportive winds like this, balls will fly everywhere. Ubaldo Jimenez is a fly-ball pitcher that's allowed 5 runs per start this year and the O's have a 3-9 SU record in [...]

Saturday June 7th Betting Picks

It was another 2-1 night last night with my play of the day on the over in Houston/Minnesota hitting after the game was delayed. The Phillies showed up as the Reds struggles against left-handers continued and Cleveland couldn't manage to come all the way back against the Rangers. It's on to tonight's card though with the Stanley Cup Playoffs getting going again as well as a full MLB card. All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts "to win" on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold NBA YTD: 12-13-1 (-$187) NHL YTD: 9-12-3 (-$177) MLB YTD: 51-56-7 (+$192) Belmont Stakes Thoughts I read DRock's thoughts on the Belmont Stakes and was surprised to see what he said. Quite frankly I couldn't disagree more with his idea that this is a "Hollywood" storybook finish because history tells me otherwise. No horse has won the Triple Crown since 1978 and it's not like it's a small sample size either. 11 horses have had the chance to win the Belmont for the Triple Crown since 1978 and all 11 have failed. That's not even including "I'll Have Another" in 2012 after he won the first two legs and pulled out of the Belmont. The last horse to race with a shot at the Triple Crown was Big Brown in 2008. Brown was absolutely dominant in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness and entered the Belmont as a heavy favorite; sound familiar? Well Big Brown pulled up early in that race and didn't even finish the race as Da'Tara came in to win at nearly 80-1. I'm not saying a longshot will come in today, but there is no chance I'm betting California Chrome [...]

Friday June 6th Betting Action

I was 2-1 with my three MLB Plays yesterday and hitting my play of the day on the over in Tampa rather easily. Baseball is the only game in town tonight so it's back to the diamond for my plays. All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts "to win" on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold NBA YTD: 12-13-1 (-$187) NHL YTD: 9-12-3 (-$177) MLB YTD: 49-55-7 (-$156) MLB Plays Philadelphia ML (+124) $200 to win $248 The Phillies have been god awful of late as their pitching has struggled mightily and they can't seem to get the key hits when they need it. It's a shame to see an organization that was so good in the late-2000's get marred in such a downward spiral like this but the league always fluctuates and Philadelphia has to adapt. But for as bad as Philly has been, the Reds have been worse against left-handed pitching all year. Hamels is a guy that has owned Cincinnati throughout his career and his lone win of the season came in a 12-1 romping of the Reds about a month ago. He is just the guy this team needs on the hill tonight as this six-game losing streak for the Phillies ends tonight. Cleveland ML (+155) $200 to win $310 This play is all about a surging Indians team that just swept their six-game homestand and goes into Texas to play a Rangers team they beat five of six times a year ago. One of those wins (1-0) came against Darvish so the Indians won't be intimidated/fooled by what the Japanese sensation throws at them. Texas is also being severely over-valued in this spot [...]

Thursday June 5th Betting Action

Yesterday was filled with a little bit of luck both ways as I went 0-1-2 with my selections. I was lucky to get a push with my totals in NHL and MLB, and was unlucky to have the Red Sox come back before eventually losing in extras to a walk-off HR. Can't dwell on what could have been though as it's on to tonight's card with some afternoon action included. All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts "to win" on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold NBA YTD: 12-13-1 (-$187) NHL YTD: 9-12-3 (-$177) MLB YTD: 47-54-7 (-$449) MLB Plays Philadelphia/Washington Under 7.5 (-111) $222 to win $200 The Phillies are a complete mess right now as they've lost five in a row and their pitching has been brutal. Their bullpen is completely spent because their starters can't go deep into games anymore and Kyle Kendrick has the task of trying to change that tonight. Kendrick has had a lot of success against the Nats in the past except for a couple of hitters (Harper, Desmond, Zimmerman) but Harper won't be playing today and Kendrick should pitch well. He's got a strong wind blowing in from left field to help him keep the balls in the yard (he's a flyball pitcher) and the Phillies are 3-7 O/U in his last 10 starts on the road. Doug Fister gets the nod for Washington and he's rounding into form with his new team. He's only given up 2.7 runs per start over his last three and I think we see a similar number put up tonight. Miami/Tampa Over 7.5 (+105) $300 to win $315 Two of the weaker pitchers we've [...]

Wednesday June 4th Betting Action

Got back into the winner's circle with last night's 2-1 day on the diamond. My play of the day on the over in LAA/Houston with C.J Wilson on the road cashed and his starts away from home are going to be something you should keep on eye on the rest of the year. No time to dwell on yesterday's results though so let's get right back at it with tonight's plays. All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts "to win" on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold NBA YTD: 12-13-1 (-$187) NHL YTD: 9-12-2 (-$177) MLB YTD: 47-53-6 (-$229) NHL Plays NYR/LA Under 5 (-117) $351 to win $300 Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals tonight and with nerves a plenty on both sides and two of the best goalies in the world in between the pipes, I don't believe we will see one of those track-meet games we saw plenty of last round. Four of the last six Game 1's in the Stanley Cup Final have stayed under the total of 5 and those two 'overs' came in the years when Chicago was involved. This series will be one where the defensive aficionados stand up and watch with excitement after a very high-scoring post-season so far and it starts tonight with Game 1. MLB Plays Boston ML (+126) $200 to win $252 Boston is looking to avoid getting swept tonight and I believe they make good on that goal. Cleveland's Corey Kluber has been spectacular for the Indians this year - especially at home - but this is a young pitcher that is long overdue for a regression to the mean. Boston's bats started to wake [...]
