Sunday October 12th NFL Free Pick

I was able to get there with my top play on North Carolina yesterday as it was a sloppy effort all around from the Irish. I couldn't get there with East Carolina as a slow start doomed the Pirates, but I'll take a 1-1 day with the higher play winning any day of the week. It's on to the NFL today and I've got one free play for everyone but you might have to plug your nose when you make the bet. All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts 'to win' on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold Free Play Records MLB Pre All Star Break: 101-107-13 (+$691) MLB post All Star Break: 47-43 (+$2817) MLB Playoffs : 4-1 (+$970) CFL YTD: 6-8 (-$266) NCAAF YTD: 12-12 ATS (+$47) NFL YTD: 7-9 ATS (-$528) NHL YTD: 0-0  NFL Free Play New York Jets +10  (-123) $369 to win $300 Needless to say there hasn't been much to like about the Jets this year as their only win has come over the winless Oakland Raiders. They are a mess at QB with the Geno Smith/Mike Vick dilemma and they just were shutout in San Diego last week. Backing the Jets is not going to be a popular option this week against the high-powered Broncos with Peyton Manning at the helm, but I've got to take the points here. For one, this is a potential look-ahead spot for the Broncos as they've got two home games with the 49ers and Chargers on deck and Denver's got to feel like those two teams are a much bigger threat to them than the 1-4 SU Jets. Like many bettors will feel, Denver's got to [...]

Saturday October 11th Betting Action

Thanks to jumping out to a 17-0 halftime lead, UNLV was able to hold on to ultimately get the win in OT, but more importantly cover the +10 spread for us last night. It's a full day of college football again today and while I've already sent out my premium plays, there are two sides tonight that narrowly missed out on making those top plays and are my top free plays for today. All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts 'to win' on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold Free Play Records MLB Pre All Star Break: 101-107-13 (+$691) MLB post All Star Break: 47-43 (+$2817) MLB Playoffs : 4-1 (+$970) CFL YTD: 6-8 (-$266) NCAAF YTD: 11-11 ATS (-$41)  NFL YTD: 7-9 ATS (-$528) NHL YTD: 0-0  NCAAF Plays North Carolina +17 (bought 0.5) (-120) $360 to win $300 The Tar Heels have been quite bad this year and have lost three straight coming into this game with the Irish. Defensively they haven't been good but if you're a silver lining type person you'll see that the defense has actually "improved" over the last three weeks. That three week run started with the Tar Heels allowing 70 points to East Carolina (lost 70-41) and followed that up with a 50-35 loss vs. Clemson and a 34-17 loss to Virginia Tech. The points allowed have been on the decline and while they won't be breaking any defensive records this year, it is a good sign. UNC also has a date with Georgia Tech up next and they are 5-0 ATS before playing the Yellow Jackets the last five years. But this play is more about fading the Irish who come [...]

Friday October 10th Betting Action

I lost badly with last night's selection on the under in the Colts/Texans as I'm beginning to wonder if we will every see any defense this year on the short week Thursday night games. Recreational bettors continue to cash with prime time games sailing well over the posted totals, but I'm still confident we will see a swing towards the 'unders' in the future, I'm just not sure when. Tonight there are three CFB games on the card along with one NHL contest and the start of the ALCS in MLB, so let's get right to today's free play. All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts 'to win' on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold Free Play Records MLB Pre All Star Break: 101-107-13 (+$691) MLB post All Star Break: 47-43 (+$2817) MLB Playoffs : 4-1 (+$970) CFL YTD: 6-8 (-$266) NCAAF YTD: 10-11 ATS (-$341)  NFL YTD: 7-9 ATS (-$528) NHL YTD: 0-0  NCAAF Play UNLV +10 (bought 0.5) (-120) $360 to win $300 Fresno and UNLV come into this contest playing very different football at the moment as the Bulldogs have won three straight (all by double digits) while UNLV has lost four in a row (all by double digits). Going on that run alone it's no surprise to see Fresno getting most of the love from bettors tonight as they are simply the better team playing better football right now. However, I'm going against the grain here with this play as I expect UNLV to put up a fight now that they don't have to deal with QB Derek Carr anymore in this game. Carr's replacement Brian Burrell has started to play much better for Fresno, but [...]

Thursday October 9th Betting Action

After passing on free plays yesterday with only NHL on the board and cashing my lone premium play for clients (San Jose ML), I'm back at it tonight with a free play for you all on tonight's Thursday Night NFL game. This week it's another division rivalry contest as the Colts and Texans battle for 1st in the AFC South, but will it be another divisional blowout like we've seen on Thursdays the past few weeks? All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts 'to win' on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold Free Play Records MLB Pre All Star Break: 101-107-13 (+$691) MLB post All Star Break: 47-43 (+$2817) MLB Playoffs : 4-1 (+$970) CFL YTD: 6-8 (-$266) NCAAF YTD: 10-11 ATS (-$341)  NFL YTD: 7-8 ATS (-$198) NHL YTD: 0-0  NFL Free Play Indianapolis/Houston Under 47 (-110) $330 to win $300 After that crazy run of prime time 'overs' was snapped on MNF with the Seahawks/Redskins game, I believe we will start to see a drastic shift the other way as these totals regress back to the mean. Five of the last six meetings between these two teams have gone 'under' and the lone over came when the Colts made a tremendous comeback here in Houston last year after Texans coach Gary Kubiak collapsed at halftime. Both teams have great red zone defense and the Colts offense isn't exactly clicking the red zone as we saw against Baltimore last week. Indy's 5-16 O/U in their last 21 division games and with the loser of these games failing to score 17 points in those five most recent unders, this game should have a similar result. Houston is 0-5 O/U after [...]

Wednesday October 8th Betting Action

Dropped my first play of the MLB playoffs last night as the Giants hitting with runners in scoring position was atrocious yet they still did enough to get the win and advance. It's on to the NHL tonight though as it's the start of the hockey season and it's got many folks here in Canada bursting with anticipation for the upcoming year. Personally I am not one of those as I'm more of a football/basketball guy and only start to really focus on the NHL once the Super Bowl has come and gone. Hockey is a difficult sport to beat betting-wise in that it's similar to baseball where taking underdogs is the bulk of my strategy because you can be sub-50% and still come out ahead. Tonight we've got one pick'em game (Montreal/Toronto) and three other underdogs (Philadelphia, San Jose, Calgary). All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts 'to win' on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold Free Play Records MLB Pre All Star Break: 101-107-13 (+$691) MLB post All Star Break: 47-43 (+$2817) MLB Playoffs : 4-1 (+$970) CFL YTD: 6-8 (-$266) NCAAF YTD: 10-11 ATS (-$341)  NFL YTD: 7-8 ATS (-$198) NHL Thoughts I don't have enough information to put out an official free play on any of tonight's NHL contests but have sent one premium play out to clients. I will say this though, I have to disagree with D Rock's free play on the Canucks tonight because there are just too many factors I don't like about backing that team this year. For one, many believe Vancouver has added the necessary pieces to be a contender again but I just don't see it. The Sedins are [...]
