My return to posting free plays yesterday didn’t turn out well as the Ducks and Kings managed to stay below the total to cost me my lone bet. It’s back to the ice tonight as we’ve got three heavy road underdogs this evening and it’s actually the worst of the bunch that’s caught my eye.

Buffalo ML (+281) $200 to win 562

Buffalo/Detroit Over 5 (-123) $369 to win $300

This is a rematch from last week where the Red Wings began this current three-game win streak they’re on by beating the Sabres 3-1. Buffalo has lost two more times since then (getting outscored 11-3), have lost 10 in a row and 14 of their last 15 overall. So why am I backing the Sabres tonight?

Well for one, I love my underdogs in the NHL and they don’t get much bigger than this. But it’s the quick turnaround revenge angle that has me excited about this play as the Sabres would love to redeem themselves with a win tonight. They know they can beat the Wings (won 3-2 earlier this year at home) and chances are Detroit takes them a little lightly tonight after last week’s victory.

This isn’t the best spot for the Wings either as they are coming off a 5-2 win over the league’s best team (Nashville) yesterday in their first game back at home after a long road trip that encompassed the 1st half of the month. Prior to that they won 3-2 against another quality foe in St Louis, so there is a strong possibility Detroit falls victim to the classic letdown spot here.

Regarding the total, Buffalo’s defense has been so porous lately that to win this game they are likely going to have to score 3+ goals. Detroit will almost assuredly get a couple themselves, so I look for this game to be a 3-2 contest at minimum with the Sabres hopefully coming through for me and ending that their double-digit losing streak.
