Split the board but made a bit of dough with my top play on the ‘over’ in Oakland cashing easily. It was a good week for free picks as I come out of the All Star break with a 12-8 record in baseball. I’m hoping this week can start off on a similar note with these plays on a short card tonight.

Toronto/Boston Under 9 (-105) $315 to win $300

We’ve got a rematch of last week’s 6-4 Jays win up in Toronto when these two starters (Dickey, Buchholz) settled down after rocky starts. That game was tied 3-3 after an inning of play as both pitchers hung some bad pitches up there to get crushed. I don’t think that will be the case tonight in the rematch as both teams are coming off emotionally draining series’.

For Toronto, they were in Yankee Stadium and won a series there for the first time in over two years. After dropping the opener on Friday, the Jays were on an 0-17 SU run in the Bronx until they broke through with a W on Saturday. It’s quite a high at this point in the year for this team to finally get over that hurdle and you’ve got to wonder if they’ll have much left for tonight.

Boston was in Tampa taking on the Rays in a series that finished with some more questionable showmanship and players losing their cool. It’s always interesting to see how teams react after games like that and although Boston’s looking for redemption after losing three to the Jays last week, I don’t think we see either pitcher struggle early on like last time.

Toronto hasn’t cashed an ‘under’ ticket since last week’s series vs. Boston started and with the wind blowing out we’ve seen this total climb to 9. All four contests between these two last week were ‘over’ (3-0-1) but what’s getting lost in all this is how well Buchholz and Dickey settled down after that first inning last week. It was a 3-3 game after the 1st, but Boston didn’t grab a 3-2 lead until the 5th and Buchholz stayed in a batter or two too long and it cost the Sox in the 6th. Eliminate that high-stress 1st inning from these two and we could easily see both go 7+ innings tonight.

The Jays are 0-5 O/U in Dickey’s last five starts on the road and 1-4 O/U in his last five starts overall. They may be on a nice streak of ‘overs,’ but they are still without some big bats and have been shutdown by Buchholz in the past. Meanwhile, Boston is 9-21 O/U the last 30 times they’ve been listed as a home favorite and went through a stretch earlier this year at Fenway when they couldn’t score. So I’m going against the majority driving this number up and expecting a 4-3 type contest.
