College Football Playoff: Ohio State vs. Alabama

Unlike my preview of the Seminoles/Ducks game, I do have a wager on this playoff game before it kicks off. We've got two historic programs meeting up with two head coaches who are very familiar with one another and the stakes couldn't be higher. Current Line at Pinnacle Sports: Ohio State (+9) vs. Alabama (-9); Total set at 58.5 Urban Meyer and Nick Saban are no strangers to one another from Meyer's SEC days when Florida and Alabama often met in the SEC Championship game with the winner going on to win it all. Although the program and conference may be different for Meyer, the talented roster he has remains the same. He is starting a QB who was 3rd on the depth chart coming into the year and making his second career CFB start (Cardale Jones) which is a bit concerning, but the way Jones played in dominating Wisconsin in the Big 10 title game is a good sign for Buckeyes fans. Yet, the one advantage Saban and Alabama have here that Wisconsin did not (aside from the month to prepare) is they've actually got game film on Jones and have a better idea of what to expect. Ohio State ran the ball very well in that 59-0 win and Meyer used that rushing success to open up the passing game for Jones. The problem this time around for Ohio State is that 'Bama knows how to stop the run and will not allow RB Ezekiel Elliot to run all over them and take control of the game. Alabama only allows 88 rushing yards per game and you know Saban and DC Kirby Smart will stack the box to limit the running game and force young Cardale Jones [...]

College Football Playoff: Florida State vs. Oregon

After battling some burnout the past few weeks, the holidays have recharged my batteries and I'll be back to posting regularly here at D Rock Sports. To begin I thought I'd give you my thoughts on the first college football playoff game this year as Florida State looks to prove their doubters wrong again with a win over Oregon. Current Line at Pinnacle Sports: Florida State (+8) vs. Oregon (-8); Total set at 71 The defending National Champions from Florida State have had the whole college football world against them this year as many are waiting for them to lose their first game since 2012. The Seminoles aren't nearly as dominant as they were a year ago, but surviving numerous close games and coming back from double digit halftime deficits this season could actually help them in these playoffs. This team knows how to perform with their backs against the wall and on the biggest stage, and that poise under pressure is a huge plus in a playoff game like this. The problem is, Florida State was just 3-10 ATS this year as bettors routinely got burned by waiting to pounce on the Seminoles to finally turn the corner and blow someone out. That was never the case and now they are listed as underdogs for the first time since the 2011 season. On the other side, Oregon has been blowing everyone out since their loss to Arizona in late-September and come into this one on an 8-0 ATS run. The lofty spreads haven't been a problem for Oregon during that time and their 9-4 ATS record this year as been a nice bankroll boost for their bettors. So who comes out on top? Well first [...]

Christmas Eve Drock Bowl Premiums

First I'm going to say the SDS coach might have made the worst coaching decision this year by far for not kicking a fg on the 11 yard line and going for it on 4th and 5 and deserve to lose after that (costing us a cover there), but coaches both in NFL and CFB continue to make horrible decisions each game when I say that's the worst call this year the next game another call takes the "worst call of the year" prize.  Frustrating, that's all I can say about that, we pick ourselves back up and move on to the next game. DBB (Drock Best Bet) in BOLD (40-30-4) 4-1 Last 5 WKU/CMU OVER 68.5 -106 (pinny) 3* - I know this is a square play here, but really dug deep here to find an UNDER edge, but couldn't find one.  You can simply fade the public with an under play, it's up to you.  Central Michigan has a decent defense this year (allowed 336 yards per game), but has played an easier of schedule against a very weak MAC conference.  They also have allowed 144 points for the opposition this season off turnovers.  With a quick strike WKU offense that could lead to TD's.  Western Kentucky gave up over 40 points on seven different occasions to teams such as Florida Atlantic, UAB, Middle Tennessee State and Old Dominion (31 points or more 9 times this season, four times 50 or more). None of these teams are bowl eligible and none of them are known for their offense either.  It's pretty easy to make a case for the WKU offense as they have put up huge numbers this season.  They ranked third nationally [...]

Drock Tuesday BOWL Premiums

DBB in BOLD (39-30-4) CFB Marshall -8 -106 (pinny) 7* - NIU public dog 70% siding with them = fade public dogs - Marshall has 29 native Floridians on their team, homecoming for them playing at FAU stadium = PLAY ON - NIU gameplan everygame - run right, run middle, run left, throw when necessary = easy to predict, which in turn is easy to stop. - Sr. QB Cato on playing in home state with family and friends all in attendance tonight. Quote from Cato in the sun-sentinel.com.  Cato lost his mom in grade six and had this to say.   "She will be in that stadium somewhere, somehow and she will definitely be watching," Cato said. "She would have wanted me to perform my last college game before my family. It is only fitting. When I found out that I was going to play my final game [in Boca Raton,] I fell to my knees and thanked the Lord." - Holiday has recruited many from the South Florida area and some will be playing there last game in front of their friends/family - HUGE INSPIRATIONAL game tonight, I am laying the points as I believe Marshall blows out NIU and no chance of a back door cover here. San Diego St. -3 -125 (5dimes) 4* - When PLAYING AGAINST any triple option team I look for one thing.  CAN THEY STOP THE TRIPLE OPTION ATTACK?  In this game, yes they can and have history to prove it.  It's all I look for because that's all they bring to the table every game, plain and simple.  It is a plus for them playing basically at home, but not why I took SDS here. SDS [...]
