It managed to be a small profitable night with my two free selections as Buffalo jumped all over a disinterested Detroit team early on and jumped out to a 3-0 1st period lead. The Wings woke up in the 2nd and talent took over en route to the 6-4 win. You’ll suffer losses like that when you back ugly dogs like the Sabres, but in that particular situation it was nice to know I wouldn’t have to sweat the results after the first period with a split and +$100 in my pocket at worst (Should Buffalo lose it would go over) and that’s what happened.

I’m coming back with a similar play tonight with another large underdog and ‘over’ play but this team is much better than Buffalo at least.

The Avs and Blues have played four times already this year with St Louis posting a 3-1 SU record and the totals going 0-3-1 O/U. The two teams traded shutout wins with one another in their last two meetings, but I believe both teams find the twine multiple times tonight in a back-and-forth affair.

When coming off a shutout win, the Blues are 2-0-2 O/U this season as they are 4th in the league with 3.13 goals scored per game. Colorado allows 2.78/game and with the Blues netting 3 goals in all three of their victories over the Avalanche this year I would not be surprised to see them reach that number (or come close to it ) tonight. As a team they are 6-1-1 O/U after their last eight victories, 8-3-1 O/U in their last 12 at home and 17-6-5 O/U after allowing two goals or less.

But I’m also backing the Avs to win this game tonight and that means I’ll need their offense to step up like Buffalo’s did last night. Colorado is wrapping up a five-game road trip tonight (1-3 SU) and would love to go home with a win in their pocket. If they want any hope of climbing back into the playoff picture in the West, these are the types of games where they’ll have to play their best hockey and although they are 1-3 SU against St Louis this year, two of those losses have come in OT or the shootout. With the Blues just 2-5 SU in their last seven division games and the Avs playing well against St Louis in three of the four meetings, this +180 price tag has plenty of value in it for a team that has scored 4+ goals in three of their last six games.
