My free plays have really taken a hit this week as I just can’t seem to get a bounce or two, or an easy winner to get a roll going again. With CFB, NHL, and NBA on the board tonight there are plenty of betting opportunities out there, so let’s get right to tonight’s action as I’m hoping for a big night from those that reside in the US capital.

Can’t even consider taking Chicago right now at this huge price given their recent struggles at home where they haven’t scored a goal in over 8 periods. The Hawks managed to break out of their mini-slump with a 5-0 win @ Montreal last time out and should be able to put a few by a Washington team that’s allowed 4+ goals in five straight games, but Chicago is battling the puck right now and are overpriced in a spot like this simply because Washington has lost five in a row.
The Caps struggles have come because they can’t keep the puck out of their net, but Barry Trotz is a defensive-minded coach and the two days of practice they’ve had since their last game was spent working on shoring things up in that end. Scoring has never really been a problem for Washington and when you can score you always have a chance. Given the hefty price on the Caps here, I believe it’s worth a shot to take them at these + money odds.

It’s retro night at the ACC tonight as the Raptors are bringing back their old purple dinosaur jerseys from the 90’s and the place should be rocking. But the Wizards are a talented bunch themselves that are looking to claim the Atlantic division this season and if Toronto plays anything like they used to when they wore these jerseys, the fans will be going home disappointed.
Toronto is tied for a league worst 50% shooting against this early in the season as their defense has been suspect to say the least. The Raps made a point to bring in more scoring during the off-season, but to not see their strong defensive play that carried them to the Atlantic Division crown a year ago has to be concerning for Dwayne Casey.
Meanwhile, Washington survived a scare from the Pacers last time out to extend their winning streak to four games. They’ve got plenty of scorers littered throughout their lineup and those guys should have plenty of success against this struggling Toronto defense. We’ve already seen this line move off it’s opening number of +4 to +2.5 currently and I have no problem bypassing it all and taking the Wizards to win this one outright.
