World Cup Elimination Stage Betting Strategies

I'll start this piece off with a minor disclaimer stating I don't follow soccer at all and have had a tough time getting into it my entire life. But since sports betting has become a huge part of my work the last decade, there are some strategies I've found to be successful in big tournaments like the World Cup and Euro Cup. These are bets I have no problem getting down on when the time comes later in the tournament. Strategy #1: Third Place Game OVER the total This is a play I can guarantee you I'll be on this year. The logic behind it is simple. These two teams are extremely disappointed about falling one game short of their ultimate goal and yet they have to go out there and play one more game. With soccer being such a structured, defensive-minded game, it's in this game that the teams open it up tremendously with nothing left to play for. No one remember's 3rd place so the stars might as well go out there and try to score internationally and give the fans a show. In 2010 we saw a 3-2 score from this game, 2006 saw a 3-1 score, 2002 saw a 3-2 score, 1998 was 2-1 and 1994 finished with a 4-0 score in this game. With totals in soccer generally being set at 2.5, all five of the past 3rd place games would have cashed an 'over' bet and I don't believe it will change in 2014. Again, there isn't much reason for these teams to pack things in defensively as the big trophy is out of reach at this point and the scorers look to shine. Strategy #2: Semi-Finals Games UNDER [...]

Tuesday June 24th Betting Action

It was a small winning night last night to start the week as my plays went 2-1 SU but it was my top play that was the loser. It's always nice to start the week on the plus side, but I've got to keep it rolling the rest of the way. On to tonight's plays: All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts "to win" on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold MLB YTD: 74-76-9 (+$1435) MLB Plays KC ML (+140) $200 to win $280 LAD/KC Over 7 (-110) $220 to win $200 Everyone knows that the reigning Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw is one of the best pitchers in baseball right now and there's no denying that fact. He proved it last time out with a no-hitter against the Colorado Rockies, who at the time had the best team batting average in the NL. But if you've been following Drock Sports for some time now, you know when we see a no-no, it's time to get out the calendar and wait for that pitcher's next start. The fact that it's Kershaw only helps us get better value in fading him in this spot tonight and no surprise, he and the Dodgers are getting over 90% of the support right now. Yet, the Royals surged into 1st place in the AL Central because their offense started to connect and keep the line moving. They knocked around Zach Greinke last night in winning the opener of this series and with a 9-1 SU record when coming off a win, KC's in a good spot tonight. The Royals are also 5-1 SU in their last six at home against NL opponents [...]

Monday June 23rd Betting Action

After an 0-3 Saturday, I took Sunday off to relax with friends and family and soak up some sun. The 0-3 day put a damper on what was a good week up until that point and I'm looking to start off this week in the winner's circle as well. With baseball being the only sport in town for the next month or two (if you want to count NFL preseason), it's important to step back from time to time because betting baseball can really be a grind. A fresh perspective after a tough day, or even a great day for that matter can be the difference in your bottom line. Anyways, on to today's picks: All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts "to win" on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold MLB YTD: 72-75-9 (+$1317) MLB Plays Washington ML (+109) $200 to win $218 The Brewers are returning home after a successful road trip out west. Milwaukee has maintained their lead in the NL Central and are looking to beat another division leader tonight. But the Nationals will be up to the task and I believe they come away with a win tonight. Gio Gonzalez makes his 2nd start tonight since returning from the DL and Washington is hoping he starts to round into form tonight. The Nats are 8-3 SU after their last 11 wins overall and have a 18-4 SU run going when Gonzalez starts the opener of a series. Washington is also 15-3 SU with him on the hill against an NL Central opponent and with a 4-1 SU record in their last five games here in Milwaukee, they'll come away with the win tonight. [...]

Saturday June 21st Betting Action

Thanks to a walk-0ff three-run HR by Carlos Beltran, my 2-1 day turned into a 1-2 day yesterday, but thankfully my top play with the Mariners cashed. With a 33-19-1 record on my top plays since joining DRock sports (63.4%) I'm still cashing those at a very good rate and am looking to hit another one today. All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts "to win" on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold MLB YTD: 72-72-9 (+$2077) MLB plays Boston/Oakland Over 7.5 (-120) $360 to win $300 We've had two straight unders to start this four-game series off with Oakland coming out on top both times. That makes it eight straight meetings between these two teams that have stayed below the total (0-5 O/U this year) and it's about time to flip the script. Oakland starter Jessie Chavez has been a guy that's used to seeing high-scoring games this year as total has finished with a 9-5 O/U record in his 15 starts this year. Part of that is because his A's teammates give him 6.1 runs of support each time out as he hasn't quite earned the same trust they have with others on the hill. With 82 hits allowed in 86 innings of work (20 in last 18), Boston will put some men on base quite often tonight and they've just got to start cashing them in. The Sox left 19 men on base last night in the 4-3 loss as they couldn't cash those guys in but that will change with Chavez on the mound. Oakland is 4-0 O/U in Chavez's last four starts at home, 7-1 O/U in his last eight starts as a favorite [...]

Friday June 20th Betting Action

It was a successful day on the diamond yesterday as I went 2-1 with my plays and both winners were nice sized underdogs. The finale between the Royals and Tigers have no chance of going over the total, but Atlanta came through as +130 dogs for my Play of the Day and Philly followed up with a win of their own at +165. Yesterday is old news though as I'm looking to give you guys some more winners on the diamond tonight. All lines taken from Pinnacle Sports with bet amounts "to win" on favorites and flat on underdogs Play of the Day in Bold MLB YTD: 71-70-9 (+$2244) MLB plays  NYM/Miami Over 7.5 (-115) $345 to win $300 New York won Game 1 of this series on the back of Zach Wheeler's complete game shutout and while that's a note you should all make for his next start early next week, tonight's game is one we should see plenty of runs in as well. I say that because although the Mets offense has gone stale with a 1-7-1 O/U record in their last nine games, we've got a very favorable umpire situation for a high-scoring game tonight. Home plate ump Lance Barrett has a 10-2 O/U record this year when calling balls and strikes with each team (road and home) scoring over 5 runs per game. With a lower total thanks to the Mets cold bats and the perception of both franchises being poor, we only need 75% of the 10.5 runs Barrett sees per game to pass this total. It helps that at the time of writing, only 24% of bets have come in on the high side of this total yet the [...]
